  • Food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened, for frosting)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with colorful liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Mix in eggs one at a time; then add milk and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Divide batter into six bowls and color each with food coloring.
  6. Layer colored batters into cupcake liners.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.
